This assignment really allowed us to get as creative as we wanted to. This program and it's tools were really great. At times I would look at what I had created and wondered how I got there and where was I going next. I wish we had more backgrounds to choose from and more objects too, but it still had some really wild effects. ENJOY!

I realize that these are probably not one of our weekly assignment, but I wanted to share a couple of photos with everyone before our class is over. I took these over the July 4th holiday weekend up at Lake Winnipesaukee. The first one was from the Wolfeboro town docks at sunset and the other two are looking out toward Rattlesnake Island from the boat while we were heading over to Alton Bay to watch the fireworks one night. I didn't really change the color very much - it was very close to this in real life.

Well, while trying to juggle life, house, vacation, kids, term paper, etc., I was trying to get some nice evening light to take some portrait shots of my wife (we get some nice evening sun in our front windows). It just wasn't happening! Rain on and off today, but between the raindrops, we went out to the patio and tried our luck. Many more on Fotothing. Hope you like them as much as I do!

This has been a great class. Jerry, thank you for helping us to understand the finer points of photo composition. I can't wait for DPII!

I have tried several things to get it to be clearer and larger once uploaded as a JPeg file from "Paint", but I haven't had much luck. Anyways, I will also post several fun ones to Fotothing. Finish Up Week!

Where did the time go? Here we are in our last week! I will be doing the grades for the class on Thursday. Do take a few moments to go through the rubric posted in the upper right corner of the blog. You can continue to add new work right up until the end on your fotothing account. There is a 10 image/day limit so plan accordingly.

The last project is meant to be fun and get you thinking about composition and scale without the need to be looking through a camera to find it. Remember that you can't save the images you create on the Atheneum site, but rather, you need to take a "screen shot" using the "print screen" button on your keyboard. That puts the image on your screen in memory then you need to paste that "memory" into either Photoshop or "Paint" that ships free with every PC. Select just the image, then copy it... next FILE>NEW and paste the selected area. Now save it as a jpg and you are all set to post to the blog and fotothing. If you have a laptop, the print screen button may be a shared button and you might need to press the Fn or function key to access it.... you do have one though!

As pre-teen my oldest son, Tylor is almost always to busy to hang out with me. The kid does attend school year round, and is always doing something school related or outside playing sports , all three account for much of his time. Today with the help of my six year old son Tymier, i was able to complete this weeks assignment. The sunlight in my house is pretty dim. Thankfully Tymier was patient, he is usually pretty good at helping me, and rarely gives up a fuss not unless of course I'm trying to get him to stop sucking his bottom lip which is something he has been doing since birth.

My first macro photos here were of flowers - a common subject. I decided to do something a little different with what was around. I just came back from taking my nephew out on a mild mountain bike ride and decided that parts of my bike would make for some interesting macro shots. Here are a couple - more on my Fotothing.

The most difficult one to take was my daughter's picture. I took them without her realizing it, because she would off smiled and showed her big dimples. I played around with the colors and tunnings and I think the best outcome is the black and white.

These are my two children Corynne & Christian. I sat them by the front door where the sunlight was shining in. I used a mirror to try and reflect the sunlight onto the other side of their faces to even out the light. I also used shadowing and fill light to try and balance the sunlight on their faces. I felt the black and white effect gave the portrait depth and definition.

Here are a couple that I took in my backyard garden - yellow squash plant and some lilies and other flowers. Flowers seem to be a common theme in macro, so I'm going to try to capture something different as well. This is what I have for now...

I have to say I struggled with this assignments more than I did with the previous assignments. I'm using a Canon Power Shot A610 and the Macro setting doesn't work with all settings. I struggled but finally found a setting it worked well with. I adjusted the shadows and sharpened some of these pictures. I can't imagine being a photographer when you wouldn't know the quality of the photo until after you developed the roll of film. Talk about expensive! YIKES!! Digital cameras fit in well with our instant gratification society.

I took this photo at Elizebeth Park aswell. I went into Picasa and played around with the Effects (focal and B&W option) to give the picture more character. Not sure if I did the job, but I tried.

I was on a business trip this week in Houston, Texas and while I didn't have much time, I found just enough time to take a few photos from close up. I got a lot of other photos, but these are a few of my favorite close up pictures. The first two are photos from the pool area, they were plants, not sure which kind, but I did get in close and the last photo is from the air plane window and they are clouds.

I took a lot of pictures of different flowers. I also had a chance to get a close picture of a bird's feather that I take was different. I was able to get real choice without losing the focus of the photo.

Lighting & Shadows

This was an interesting assignment, of course the day I chose to do this assignment was very cloudy but it provided some great lighting effects. The way the sunlight came through the clouds with the shadowed steeple proved to be a neat back drop. The second photo was the sun peeking through the clouds, reflecting in the water taken looking straight down from a foot bridge in downtown Milford. The greenish looking stuff is the shadows from the bridge and the hanging potted plants aroung the foot bridge.If you look closely at the lower left you can see my shoes.

I have to admit that I struggled with this one. For some reason I just wasn't coming up with anything inspiring (I'll keep working at it and continue to post). Here are a couple of shots - the only two that I thought were worthy of posting - and I'm not even ultimately thrilled with these two! I did like the flat look of the clouds reflected in the glass, though.

On the first two photos I was able to zoom in a little more than 1/2 before it began to get blurry. On the last photo I used my EPSON scanner and used the tips Professor Jerry suggested and this is the result. For the resolution I kept it on

Just took these photos of a mandevilla vine in my yard and liked how they came out so I decided to post here. I thought the bud was really cool, since it looks like it's about to explode. The b&w is the shadow of a patio chair. I did crop and play with the coloring slightly, but for the most part it's natural lighting.
